|------------------------------------| | Boulderdash v1.17 readme text file | |------------------------------------| This document can also be accessed by typing "README" while in the boulderdash directory. ============================================================================== Disclaimer ============================================================================== By running the installation program for this game, you certify that the programmer is by no means responsible for anything that happens to You, Your computer, Your family, or this galaxy. ============================================================================== Installation ============================================================================== To install Boulderdash, Run "INSTALL" on the installation disk - DOS : Change to your removable disk drive (A: or B:) and Type "INSTALL" Windows 3.1 : In program manager, click file/run and type "A:\INSTALL" or "B:\INSTALL" Windows 95 : Click Start, Run. and enter "A:\INSTALL" or "B:\INSTALL" From the menu of components, choose the appropriate items by using the arrow keys, and <enter> or <space bar>. If an Item is Disabled (Greyed Out) then that component was not included with this release of the game. Press the "INSTALL NOW" button when ready. You are now prompted to enter a directory to install Boulderdash to. If you are not sure what you are doing, then leave this box as it is. In the bottom window you can see the current installation status, A list of files being extracted is shown here. If your computer stops for a long time on one extraction, then you are recommended to reset your computer and attempt the installation again. If you encounter problems with the installation program repeatedly, then Send me come E-Mail - (panther@icon.co.za) ============================================================================== School Project ============================================================================== Techanical info : Boulderdash needs a several files - these include - graphics files - palette files for the graphics files - binary data file (for the ending screen) - a configuration file - several level files - the executables - DASH.EXE DSETUP.EXE Fortunately, most of these files can be packed into one file (DASH.PAC) and the program will read them out of it. The following files will not be recognised by the program if they are in the DASH.PAC file : - The Executables (*.exe) - The configuration file (dash.cfg) - The save game (savegame.dsh) - This text file/viewer (readme.*) However, all the graphics and palette files, as well as the ending screen will still be recognised if they are put into DASH.PAC Note - Files outside of the PAC file take preference over those inside it, ie. If the file DASH.BIN is inside the PAC file, the program first checks to find DASH.BIN in the current directory, before reading it from DASH.PAC The following utilties (All made by me), are included with the game : - PCX2RAW - Converts PCX(Image) files to RAW data for the game to use - PCX2PAL - Converts PCX(Image) files to Palette files for the game - TPAC - Allows modification of the DASH.PAC file - LVLEDIT - Used to modify misc level info (no. of diamonds needed etc) ============================================================================== System Requirements ============================================================================== - Pentium 100 Mhz or faster - No extended or expanded memory required - 300k of free BASE memory - 1.3Mb of hard disk space - VGA monitor - MS-DOS v3.0 (Uses DOS interrupt calls) or higher (or Windows 95) ============================================================================== Playing the Game ============================================================================== The object of the game is to collect the required amount of diamonds before getting to the exit door. Time is also a factor, so complete the levels as fast as you can! When playing boulderdash, use the following keys : Up Arrow : Move Up Down Arrow : Move Down Left Arrow : Move left Right Arrow : Move Right Space Bar : Snatch F1 : Restart Level Escape : Go to menu (pause game) Avoid falling rocks and diamonds - they are lethal! If you get stuck trying to finish a level, try taking a different route around it. It could be that you are just doing it in the wrong order! ============================================================================== The Cheat Codes ============================================================================== The Cheatcodes for boulderdash should be typed in sequentially - ie. you would type B then D and then the rest of the cheat code.
