1 Waves and Spirals Back Waves The sequence
begins with gentle spinal articulations. Lift on partner’s
inbreath enough to feel a bit of her weight in your palm.
Geisha or Crossed Crab walk. Do a run from the
sacrum up to between the shoulder blades and back
down. Repeat a run squeezing the erector spinae.
Do two more runs Back Crab walking, pushing
and pulling, then squeezing and waving. In Horse
Stance, first transfer your weight headwards...
...then cross your foot foot behind and transfer your
weight back. These are the two phases of the Back
Crab Walk body mechanics.
In the second half of the spiral, sink down and
exhale as partner exhales. Timing it this way with the
breath facilitates the submerged undercircle. Work
up and back down the spine.
Spiral Supine In the first half of the Spiral Supine
inhale and stand up as partner inhales. Circle her up
and away from you. Brace your elbow to your side,
if needed. Keep the head deep in the water.

Hip Spiral To create this spiral, circle the pelvis
with your hip hand while traveling headwards. Take
Crabzilla steps backwards. Angle the body at 45°.
Lift partner up and away, then circle her down and
toward. Allow the spiral to sequence comfortably
through the legs. Lengthen the round and the arch.
Arm Wave Away Play the head out away from
you, then with the back of your foot hand, “shoe-
horn” the near arm in front of you.
With a Pinky Grip or normal grip at the wrist, hoist
the near arm vertical and embrace the heart to yours.
Push your chest into partner’s back on the arch.
For the rounding phase of the wave, cross behind
and C-curve your elbow forward. Keep partner
pressed against your chest, keep the traction in the
arm. Use the Back Crab footwork.
Heart Spiral Supine Your body mechanics are
Godzilla Steps from the Best in Show relation to
partner, off to the side of the head. Be on the inside
of the circle and bring your head hand to the heart.

Step to the outside of the circle, lifting the chest up and
away in an oval. Step to the inside and under-circle the
chest toward you. Keep the ears underwater.
Boogie In stance, use full-body arhythmic move-
ments, chest compressions and back massage to
release holding. Then stillness before continuing.
Heart Spiral Away Face the outside of the circle.
Crab walk or Godzilla facing partner’s back. Circle
the sandwich. Lengthen the round and the arch.
Keep your hands soft, follow the breath, and allow
the movement to sequence through the body. Lift
your elbow to align the head with the spine.
Hara Hug Rock in Horse Stance. The palm of
the head hand is facing down. C-curve the neck and
head on the rotation footwards. Your foot hand is
on the hara or supporting at the waist.
Caterpillar Stand above the head in Warrior
Stance. Your palm on the back rolls and lifts with
countertraction to the Monkey Frisbee head grip.

As the back sinks, c-curve the head. Do three
times: upper back, middle back, lower back. Then
begin at the top again and work downwards.
Head Wave with Trapezius Massage Monkey
Frisbee Grip beneath the head, massage the inside
trapezius (in relation to circle), fingers up, thumb down.
Countertraction As in the previous technique,
take baby Godzilla steps above the head. Counter-
traction the shoulder away from the head.
Shoulder Spiral Still backing up with the same
Monkey Frisbee grip on the head, circle the shoul-
der, guiding it up and to the inside of the circle...
...then bringing the head toward the outside of the
circle, lower the shoulder slightly, creating an oval-
shaped movement.
45º Head Wave Bring partner 45º onto her side
out of the last dip of the shoulder in the circling. Baby
Godzilla backwards, small wave, much traction.

2 Seaweed II With partner’s head on your right
shoulder, find some deep water and travel back-
wards with Geisha Steps.
Take advantage of the control that both hands give
you to maintain partner 45º on her side. Use lots of
traction, not much sideways movement--a slither.
Back Lift and Massage Use the Flower Grip to
lift the back in Warrior. Begin under lower ribcage,
head weight on your shoulder, using your legs to lift.
In Horse Stance, smaller, quicker thumb fanning
circles between the shoulder blades look like this.
Generate a sideways wave with your four fingers.
Next, push the hip away and carve under the oppo-
site shoulder blade with your thumb ascending along
the vertebral border. Alternate sides for a wave.
The Rib 8 Hold the sides of the ribcage in stance
and “bicycle” the ribcage in a figure 8. Shift your
grip up and down the ribcage with countertraction.
