Twin Tales

Real Reading 1                                                                                        Unit 10 Test    1

1                  My sister and I are identical twins. When               we were kids, we always wore matching               clothes, and people never knew which one               was which. But we’re quite different in other 5              ways. For example, my sister is really good               at math, and I’m terrible! At school, they put               us in separate classes. One day we decided               to change places for a day, just to see if the               teachers noticed. I went to her classes, and 10              she went to mine. But then her math teacher               gave the class a quiz! Of course I failed. The               result was that we got into big trouble. I ran               into one of my teachers the other day, and               she still remembers that!

My aunt was adopted at birth and never               knew much about her birth family. But she               always thought that maybe she was a twin.               Finally when she was in her fifties, she      20              contacted the adoption agency and they said               yes, she had a twin sister. She was really               shocked when she heard the news and, of               course, she wanted to meet her twin. But her

sister lived in Australia. They met only      25              once, when her sister came to visit. It was               amazing. They were very alike. It was clear               that they really enjoy each other’s company.               They are sad that they’re apart, but they talk               to each other on the phone all the time.

When my twin boys were babies, they               wanted to do everything the same. If one of               them ate broccoli, the other one did, too. If               one was tired and had to lie down, the other 35              one wanted to lie down, too. If one was sick,               I had to give medicine to both of them. One               day Terry was playing outside, and Tom was               in the kitchen with me. Tom started crying               and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong   40              with him. Finally we went outside and I                   realized that Terry had hurt his knee. After               that, if one started crying for no reason, I               always checked on the other, in case he was               hurt.
