Flower Patch

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Fabric Square: PQ009.
Wadding and Bondaweb.
Plain Non-Stretch Fabric.
Non-Stick Baking Parchment.
Cream Thread & Fuchsia Stranded Ctn.
Needle and Embroidery Hoop.
Tulip Paint: FP07 Icicle White.
Peel-Off Stickers: ZL512U-81 Butterfly
and XL705U-01 Wording.
Gems: GE02-06 Pink Heart and
GE05-02 Round Silver.
Transparent Polyester: PET01.
Double Sided Tape: ADH13.
Card Mount: JA08G-46 Hammer Crm.
TO MAKE THE CARD:
1. Cut the picture from inside the flower
border leaving just a couple of millimetres
of the picture on the frame as shown below.
2. Cut a piece of plain fabric to the same size as
the picture and a piece of wadding to the size of the
card aperture. Place the plain fabric with the wadding
on top of it then centre the picture panel over the
wadding (layers shown from the back view) and fix
into the embroidery hoop.
3. See the enlarged picture overleaf. Use the cream
thread to make small backstitches around the fairy
and two butterflies. Use 2 strands of fuchsia cotton
to make a French knot in the centre of each flower
on the head band as shown. Use a single strand of
fuchsia cotton to work small backstitches around the
centre of each daisy flower and around the front
flowers as shown on the diagram.
4. Paint the wings with the icicle tulip paint, applying
it with a small brush, this will give them a pretty
glittery look. Set work aside to dry and wash the
brush in water immediately.
5. Iron the border you cut from the fabric panel ear-
lier. Cut a strip of Bondaweb the width of the fabric
border, place the fabric face down on a piece of
baking parchment, place the Bondaweb along one
side of the fabric frame, cover with more parchment
and press with the iron for a few seconds until the
Bondaweb is stuck to the fabric. Cover each of the
other 3 sides with Bondaweb in the same way.
6. Cut the frame diagonally at each corner to give you
four strips. Trim each strip to remove the little bit of
picture and the inside border line at the same time.

7. Fold the card mount and place on a piece of bak-
ing parchment that is a bit larger than the card. Place
one of the border strips on the card aligning the bor-
der to the gold line, ensure the diagonal cut end is in
line with the corner of the gold line and the card cor-
ner. Once it is in place, cover with a bit of parchment
and use a warm iron on the aligned end to tack it into
place. Carefully hold it along the card and trim the
other end to the corner before covering it and ironing
it into place. Do the same to the other three sides.
Trim the edges of the cream patterned fabric to the
card using a sharp pair of scissors. Stick the stitched
panel into the card and glue the back flap closed in
the usual way.
8. Stick a butterfly to clear polyester and trim to
the sticker. Add a pink heart to the top part, and a
silver gem to the lower part of each wing. Add a
row of 5 silver gems to the body leaving the head
uncovered. Fold the wings gently up and stick the
butterfly, by the body only, to the top of the card.
Add the happy birthday wording between the fairy
panel and flower border at the bottom right corner
of the card with a sticker flower between them in
the corner.
