Sufi Music
with ARC Music
The esoteric Islamic tradition of Sufism teaches that Allah is the Sole Being, and that
man can only achieve a state of true being through His Divine Love. Love in this sense
is separate from the love that exists between people; it is a divine quality and a gift
from Allah.
Most schools of Sufism use music to connect with God and harness divine energy.
Prayers, recitations from the Koran and calls to prayer are the most common of sufi
songs, all in constant remembrance of God and in praise of Muhammad.
The collection highlights a selection of Sufi music spanning the Islamic world from
North Africa, through the Middle East to India and Pakistan. Details of the albums from

Shafqat Ali Khan’s
music is thoroughly rooted in the Sufi tradition.
Shafqat skilfully blends old and new, mixing the traditional sounds
of the music of his homeland with that of
electric guitars, synthesizers
(Doug McKeehan) and
saxophones
(George Brooks). At its heart,
though, remains the spiritual quest that has been the essence of Sufi
music for hundreds of years.
