Introduction
In the Far East, there is a person that has a destiny to
create a wave of drastic change over the beautiful and
regarded Jade Empire . Their journey will not be an easy
one, as they will encounter many fiendish enemies and
ghouls to tear apart on their venture. That person is you,
young reader. But what if you cannot save the Jade
Empire by overcoming these obstacles? What if those
toad-men looking beasts kick you in the teeth before you
can whip out your Chi powers?
Do not fear, Silent Boar, as IGN Guides is here to show
you the ways of the Open Palm. If you still want your MTV,
you're here in the Intro. If you don't know your Chi Blast
from your Chia Pet, you should check out the Basics. The
Followers section should do you some good, as it will tell
you all about your followers in the game. The Fighting
Styles section will keep you plenty busy as we go through
the brief descriptions of each class. The Walkthrough will
describe how to clear the game, and hopefully bring peace to the Jade Empire . Take a gander at the Boards if you

Basics
Body, Spirit and Mind
When selecting your character from the start of the game, you will be prompted with a vast array of selections. After
choosing your initial character build, you must customize your character by placing your remaining points into one of
three slots (or a nice blend of the three). Body represents how much damage that you can take, as it will give you health
points. Spirit represents a wide variety of things. You can use Chi Heal to regain health, or you can power up your
attacks using it. Lastly, Mind will allow you to concentrate and slow down your enemies' attacks.
The Basics Of Attacks
Weapon, Martial, Support, Transformation and Magic are the five elements that the game's combat system revolves
around. Unlike in Bioware's previous outstanding Xbox outing (Knights of the Old Republic), the combat in Jade Empire
is all action based. In fact, it is an action-RPG in every sense of the word. Due to this, you must master the five
techniques of fighting. Weapon styles revolve around using weapons to injure your attacker. Martial styles are all in the
arms and legs, while Support attacks enfeeble your enemy. Transformation allows you to literally transform into beasts
of or beyond nature, and Magic is exactly that.
There Be Gems In Those Hills!
You will collect gems as you travel in your adventures, and
they can be equipped inside of an amulet that you will
receive around halfway through the first chapter of the
game. These gems will boost your stats, whether they be
Body, Mind, or Spirit. They can also boost your speaking
skills (Charm, Intimidation, or Intuition). Some gems can do
a mixture of both, plus some side effects!
Switching Targets
It may seem like common knowledge, but many deaths can
be avoided by targeting the correct enemy first. In many
instances, it is ideal to take care of the lesser enemies
before going into battle against the big guns—-and vice
versa. You can toggle between enemies by pressing the
shoulder buttons (L Trigger and R Trigger). The
Walkthrough will give you more info on the tougher battles,
but use your best judgement for typical fights.
When Down In The Dumps...
Just remember that all is not lost when you are injured and you are surrounded by enemies. By using an Area Attack (X
+ A buttons), you can buy yourself enough time to stray from the main course of action and heal yourself using Chi Heal
(white button).
Those That Follow
Followers are the common "party members" in Jade Empire . You will find a large amount of Followers as you complete
your epic journey in the game, including several optional Followers. Check out the Followers section for full bios and
such. Followers will be computer controlled throughout the game, although you can change exactly how they assist you.
Thankfully, the A.I. is quite swell, so you will not get too many unhelpful moments from your Followers. You can switch
followers at any time via the start menu.
Booty Trap!
Some bamboo casks, chests, and other things that are filled with silver, treasure, or other forms of loot are booby
trapped to the high heavens. We will note these locations in the walkthrough, but please remember to go into Focus
mode to evade the damage caused by these explosives.
Speak To Your Friends
One of the tougher things to keep in mind along your adventures is to keep talking to your Followers when you reach
new areas. You can learn new and interesting things about them, flirt with them, make them angry, and the like. You can
even have romance interests throughout the game by your flirting! You never know when something might come up, so
always speak with your partners.
Techniques
Techniques are a bit confusing at first, simply because there is no real mention of how to use them as you progress
early on in the game. Techniques are simply there, nothing more. By learning (ala obtaining) Techniques, you will
instantly receive their boost. You cannot use them or anything of the like, you will simply adjust as you collect them.
Buks R Gud 4 U
If you find a scrollstand or a bookstand along your journeys, you should definitely check it out. Not only will you gain
knowledge of the history of the Jade Empire , but you will always gain experience points just for glancing them over! You
will also obtain Techniques for reading all of a certain division of books/scrolls.
Save Frequently
You can save at almost any time, except during battles. So hey, save a lot. It can't hurt.

Dawn Star
You will automatically gain Dawn Star as your first partner-
in-crime along your journey at the beginning of the first
chapter. Dawn Star is your childhood friend that just so
happens to see apparitions, and she is able to have
conversations with these ghosts. Due to this, Dawn Star
can damage spirits and otherworldly ghouls, making her an
excellent comrade to have early on in the game. She uses
the Long Sword, and she will recover your Chi as a support
ability.
Sagacious Zu
Sagacious Zu (Zu to friends) can be found in the Bandit
Swamp. He will assist you to find a friend. Sagacious Zu is
very noble, indeed, and quite selfless when put to the test.
You will find that he makes quite an excellent sidekick, as
his attacks are very rough and wrangled compared to most
other Followers. Use Sagacious Zu when you are in dire
need of some brutish muscle. His support ability will allow
you to deal additional damage when using Weapon styles.
Henpecked Hou
Henpecked Hou is a very simple man that is tough in spirit but a little... hmm... weak on the exterior. Due to this, Hou will
join your Followers list on the condition that you save him at the Pilgrim's Rest Inn, and that you keep him out of trouble
during battles. In case you're curious, Henpecked Hou helps out by tossing you wine bottles to get drunk on, and
furthermore allows you to use the Drunken Master fighting style exclusively! This style is very unique, and comes in
handy during many-a boss fight.
The Black Whirlwind
The Black Whirlwind is an extraordinary fighter; he is a one
of a kind drunken madman that uses his dual axes to slice
and dice through any enemy that is weak to Martial attacks.
The Black Whirlwind is self-taught; meaning no one else in
the Empire uses his fighting style. He is an excellent fighter,
and runs laps around everyone else in your party at the
time that you pick him up in your Followers list, so take him
with you in those heavily enemy-clad dungeons.
Zin Bu the Magic Abacus
Zin Bu will automatically join your list of Followers at the
Forest Shadow Temple in Chapter 2. Unlike any party
member/follower thus far, Zin Bu the Magic Abacus never
actually enters any battle whatsoever. He will, however, be
your one-stop shop whenever you need him to appear. Just
select him in the Followers list to enter his store.
Wild Flower/Chai Ka and Wild Flower/Ya Zhen
One of the most interesting and intriguing characters in the game is Wild Flower/Chai Ka. While they cannot both exist at
the same time, Wild Flower (a little girl) will recover your health points when she can, and will morph into Chai Ka, an
ancient demon from Heaven that is also known as "the Guardian." Chai Ka is a gigantic demon, so of course his attacks
will be extremely powerful. His attacks work wonders against the undead, as well. As for Ya Zhen, he is an evil version
of the big guy Chai Ka, only in a Toad-ish form. If you're feeling rather evil, allow him to follow you instead of the Chai Ka
form.
Sky
Sky can be found on the pirate leg of Chapter 2, no pun-intended with the pirate leg part. Sky seems to have a very
devious plan in store for Gao the Greater, and wishes to have you tag along in his quest for revenge. Sky is another
excellent warrior to add to the arsenal of already skilled fighters. We guess it all depends on the type of blades that you
prefer.
Kang the Mad
Kang the Mad comes off as a mad scientist, of course. He is Gao the Greater's right-hand scientist, and boy does he
despise the job. Gao the Greater constantly bullies the poor genius around until he gets his way, and toys with Kang's
creations to the point that he can no longer take it. Kang wants you to rough Gao the Greater up, of course. Then again,
so does everyone. Kang isn't a skilled fighter at all, but his explosives and the Dragonfly (airship) come in handy quite a
bit.

Silk Fox
Silk Fox is one skilled fighter and a half. She uses such
grace with her fighting technique that she seems to work
her way around her opponent and stab them where it hurts.
She will easily break their blocking, as well. Although you
see Silk Fox in Chapter 2, she will not enter your party until
you have proven yourself trustworthy. She takes some time
to butter up to, but she's an excellent companion once you
have her on board.
Abbot Song
You will find Abbot Song during the 5th Chapter of the
game, and he will certainly be a welcomed addition to any
party setup that you'd like to have. Abbot Song will defend
you with a wonderful polearm that is dual-sided with blades.
This makes him extremely deadly during battle as the
ultimate in polearm combat. His attacks are moderate in
speed, but man, does he pack a punch. While his strength
is not outstanding, he is a well-rounded fighter,
nonetheless. He replaces Zu on the list of strongest polearm fighters.
Death's Hand
After defeating Death's Hand in battle during Chapter 6, you can choose to free his soul (Open Palm) or use him as a
slave (Closed Fist). If you choose the latter, you will receive the best Follower in the game, as Death's Hand is the
strongest, fastest, and most efficient Follower of them all. It all depends on your alignment, as you will gain many Closed
Fist points for enslaving him.

Fighting Styles
Martial Styles
Legendary Strike
The most basic yet not-so common of all fighting styles is
the Legendary Strike style set. The best thing about this
style is that it is very bare-knuckles Martial Arts fighting.
You have a moderate speed to rip through enemies quickly,
yet efficiently. Legendary Strike does well in the damage
department, to boot, and you will very easily beat the
competition in the ol' patience game. You can easily outlast
your opponent using Legendary Strike.
Thousand Cuts
Thousand Cuts is widely regarded as the thieves' Martial
style, as it is extremely quick in speed and very blunt with
the punches that are thrown. Thousand Cuts is not by any
means a powerful Martial style, however, it is a decent
starting Martial style to give you tons of diversity early on in
the game, as you can purchase and learn other styles as
you progress.
Leaping Tiger
The Leaping Tiger Martial style is one of the fastest styles in the entire game, whether it is Martial style or any other kind
of style. Due to this, the Leaping Tiger is a very nice varied style to use if you're at a loss of what to master next. It does
not, however, provide as powerful of a punch as the likes of Legendary Strike. Regardless, if you're looking for a great
alternative to Thousand Cuts, Leaping Tiger is definitely your choice.
White Demon
The White Demon Martial style is the most powerful Martial
style in the game. The main problem being that with power,
you lose speed. Due to this, the White Demon Martial style
also happens to be one of the slowest styles in the game. It
all comes down to planning your attacks way ahead of time.
If you feel that you can actually master this style, then you
likely can. It's not entirely too hard to figure out what to do
with it, but it is hard to correctly nail your timing.
Drunken Master
You can only use the very awesome, very drunken Martial
style of Drunken Master when you have the master
chef/master fighter Henpecked Hou in your party. Check
the Followers section for information on Henpecked Hou.
Unlock other Followers, Henpecked Hou cannot fight the
enemies around you, but he will toss out wine bottles for
you to get drunk off of. Drunken Master is great for tactical
battles where you must time your attacks. It is not, however,
great for fast-paced battles.
Support Styles
Heavenly Wave
Heavenly Wave is a support style that can be connected with a Martial style to complete a Harmonic Combo. Heavenly
Wave is highly heavenly when used against common criminals and such, and somewhat effective against bigger
enemies.
Spirit Thief
Hui the Brave will teach you this wondrous technical support style once you have helped her at the beginning of Chapter
2. The tough part about fighting in long, drawn out bouts is the fact that you simply run out of Chi entirely too soon. With
Spirit Thief, you can quickly transfer your enemies' spirit to your own, giving you more Chi as you go along. You will
happily be able to drain Chi and use it, but this style is extremely sluggish and does minimal damage compared to a lot
of other styles. Be careful when spreading the love.
Paralyzing Palm
This support style can be obtained by completing your Sidequest against Smiling Mountain in the Black Leopard School
in Chapter 3. The Paralyzing Palm is a very rare and distinguished Support style that can cause your opponents to go
completely paralyzed for a long amount of time. This is the good news; the bad news is that your attacks will be
incredibly slow as you use this style. It's extremely important that you dump a lot of style points into speed here.
