'turned' as in the second side of a split ring.
Materials required. 2 shuttles, number 20 thread, number 11 seed beads.
Note: for those who prefer front side/back side tatting the text in italics and red indicates
where the worker needs to use the second half of the ds first.
Add 2 beads to each shuttle. Another 22 beads will be added to picots.

Tail – 2 shuttles with 2 beads on each.
Join both shuttles to vsp at base of body (between chains which lie after SR4 & before
SR6). You do not need to tie – just push both ends through the vsp from OPPOSITE
directions and tat over tails. Make a lock chain to measure roughly 4”.
Alternatively you could work an Easy Pearl Tatted chain (see link) instead finishing off as
follows:-
Using Sh1 first:-
Move 1 bead to back of hand before starting.
R1: 2 – 2 B 2 – 2 Cl bead at back of hand before starting next R
R2: 2 + B (p on R1) 2 B 2 – 2 Cl SS RW. Bead at back of hand
R3: 2 + B (1 st p on R1) 2 B 2 – 2 Cl. Bead at back of hand.
R4: 2 + B (p on R3) 2 B 2 – 2 Cl RW SS
SR5: 2 + B (p on R2) 2 / 2 + B (p on R4) 2 Cl & cut threads
Add a few more beads to tail and tie a knot. See fig. 4.
Alternative Tail
Just before finishing the chain make ds as follows
1 picot, ds on first side
1 picot, ds on second side
Make butterfly as follows – using Sh on first side and make rings as
follows
R1:
1 + (p on Lch) 4 – 1 – 1 – 4 – 2 Cl
R2:
2 + (last p R1) 8 – 1 – 1 – 10 Cl RW SS
R3:
1 + (p on Lch) 4 – 1 – 1 – 4 – 2 Cl
R4:
2 + (last p R3) 8 – 1 – 1 – 10 Cl SS
SR5: 5 / 5 Cl Tie an overhand knot with both ends and cut leaving feelers.
