Operation modes

Gateway Wireless AP/router for Internet sharing with Firewall/VPN
Sharing of Internet connection provided via ADSL/Cable Modem or Ethernet connected to the
WAN port using NAT. PCs can connect with the BlackBox BB54G using LAN ports or
wirelessly using AP function. On the Ethernet WAN port are supported WAN connection types
PPPOE, DHCP client, PPTP client or static IP.

Bridge Multimode Wireless Access Point/Client/Bridge with 5 Ethernet ports
All 5 ethernet ports and wireless interface of the BlackBox BB54G are bridged together and
NAT function is disabled. All the WAN related and firewall functions are not supported.

Wireless ISP CPE router for Wireless Internet connection with Firewall/VPN
WLAN interface acts as WAN port to connect with Access Point of a Wireless Internet Service
Provider. All 5 ethernet ports are bridged together and can be used to connect with user PCs
sharing the wireless Internet connection using NAT. On the WLAN interface are supported WAN
connection types PPPOE, DHCP client, PPTP client or static IP.

Installation instructions
1. Power On the BlackBox BB54G
Connect DC 7.5V Power Adapter to BlackBox BB54G and plug the adapter into a power socket.
Note: It will take about 1 minute to complete the boot up sequence after power on of the BlackBox
BB54G; Power LED will be active and then the WLAN Activity LED start flashing to show the
WLAN interface is enabled and working now.
2. Connect your PC to any LAN port for configuration setting
Configure your PC with IP address between 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 and subnet mask
255.255.255.0, then open an Internet browser (i.e. Microsoft IE6.1 SP1 or above) and enter
http://192.168.1.254 to URL field. Following screen will appear:
3. Click on Setup Wizard and follow on-screen instructions to setup basic parameters.
Go through the wizard by clicking on Next and changing shown parameters if desired. Finalize
your settings by clicking on Finished button.

4. Configure advanced settings and special functions
Browse through Setup menu and change advanced parameters and enable special functions on
appropriate page as you require.
Please consult the user’s manual of BlackBox BB54G for more information.
Note: When use other than supplied antenna with BlackBox BB54G, please respect local radio
regulation rules (EIRP limit) by setting appropriate output power level in Wireless > Advanced
Settings page.
Following table shows output power levels of BlackBox BB54G for each power settings among
maximum recommended gain of external antenna in order to meet 100mW EIRP limit. To take into
account additional losses such as loss of coaxial cable, connectors etc., you can add the loss value in
dB to the Gain values.
