Dear Mary,

[I/be]____________________________________ at Lacrosse College for a year and [I/not/take]____________________________________ any computer courses yet. [I/take]____________________________________ a few math courses at this college, but none involving computers. The calculus course that [I/take]__________________________ last fall [be]_______________________________________________ interesting, but [I/not/understand]____________________________________ a lot of the material, and [I/fail]____________________________________________________ the final exam. [I/really/try]____________________________________ hard to do well during the first semester, but [I/not/can/pass]____________________________________ that class.

So far, [I/have]____________________________________ a lot of trouble with my classes. [I/never/enjoy]____________________________________ math or science, as you know, and [I/always/prefer]____________________________________ languages, but here they require you to take basic math and science.

In high school, [I/do]____________________________________ well in math because [it/be]____________________________________ easy for me then. Now, it's more than I can handle.

My social life at school [be]____________________________________ fairly quiet. [I/not/meet]___________________________________ any interesting people yet, although [I/go]______________________________________________ to several parties. In fact, {I/go]__________________________________________ to one mixer last night, where [I/meet]___________________________________________ a lot of business students. [I/find]______________________________________________ them all to be really boring.[They/only/talk]____________________________________ about money.

Christmas vacation [be]____________________________________ really boring. [I/stay]____________________________________ in my room most of the time, and [I/read]_______________________________________________ a lot of books and [call]_________________________________________ a few friends on the phone, but [I/not/have]________________________________________ a lot of fun. [I/never/enjoy]________________________________________ Christmas vacations. [I/always/be]_________________________________________ a loner, and at parties [I/always/be]____________________________________ a wallflower, never meeting anyone. [I/survive]____________________________________ 19 Christmas holidays in my life so far, and [I/never/feel]____________________________________ the Christmas spirit. Well, maybe [I/enjoy]____________________________________ Christmas somewhat when [I/be]__________________________________________ a little kid, but I don't think that [I/have]______________________________________ a good time during holidays in recent years.

I look forward to summer vacation, especially now that it’s February and so cold. [It/not/snow]____________________________________ much so far this winter, but I think that it will soon. This winter [be]____________________________________ fairly warm, and [it/not/be]__________________________________________ very good for skiing lately. [I/try]_______________________________________________ to go skiing last week, but [there/not/be]____________________________________ enough snow.

I guess this letter [be]____________________________________ a little depressing so far. I should mention that [I/go]____________________________________ to Atlantic City last week and [I/win]____________________________________ some money playing roulette, so this year [not/be]____________________________________ totally bad. By the way, [how/you/be]___________________________________________________ lately? [you/see]____________________________________ any good movies lately?

              [How/your sister Kate/be]_______________________________________?

[she/start]_____________________________________________ her new job yet? [I/just/find]_________________________________________ a part/time job, by the way. [I/get]____________________________________ it last week after my roommate [tell]____________________________________ me about it. How’s school? Write me.

                                                                                                  Love,

                                                                                                  Dick
